Brod

Free to start

Pricing

Brod is priced as a plan for a workspace, with room for a number of apps and people. Deploying inside it never adds a charge. You can also run Brod on your own server for free.

The free plan on brod.sh

Brod is free to start. The free plan for a workspace includes:

  • 10 running apps

    Paused apps do not count.

  • 10 people

10 people in the workspace. Guests invited to a single app do not count.

  • 250 MB of storage

Shared by the apps' databases, key-value stores and files.

  • Every platform feature

Sign-in, roles, database, secrets, rollback and logs for every app.

There is no charge per app or per deploy. Old versions of an app count toward storage. When a workspace runs out of storage, writes that grow the data fail; reads and deletes keep working.

Create a workspace to start.

What the free plan includes per app

The free plan is not a cut-down version of the platform. Every app in the workspace gets the same things:

  • Address and sign-in. A private HTTPS address, and one sign-in for the whole workspace by emailed link or Google.
  • Access. Access modes and grants by person, group or email domain, plus roles the app can read.
  • Data. For apps with server code: a SQLite database, a key-value store, file storage and encrypted secrets.
  • Releases. Numbered versions, a staging address for updates, rollback, and logs your agent can read.

The limits are on how many apps run, how many people are in the workspace and how much storage they use. See what Brod gives every app.

On the way

Neither is available yet.

  • Larger plans

Larger plans for bigger teams, with more apps and people.

  • A marketplace

List an app you built, and other teams install a private copy into their own workspace, with their own data and sign-in.

Self-hosted: free

Brod is open source under AGPL-3.0. You can run it inside your company and change it freely. If you offer a modified Brod to others as a network service, you must offer them its source.

Run it yourself

Both run the same code. Self-hosting needs Docker with Compose and one environment variable, the admin's email address.

A server with 1 vCPU and 2 GB of memory is enough for a team with a handful of apps. See the production guide for DNS, HTTPS, email and backups.

Questions

How much do larger plans cost?

Larger plans are not available yet, so there are no prices to show. The free plan is the only plan on brod.sh today.

Do I pay per app or per deploy?

No. Brod is priced as a plan for a workspace. Deploying inside it never adds a charge.

What counts as a running app?

Any app that is not paused. Pause an app you are not using and it stops counting toward the 10.

Do guests count toward the 10 people?

No. Guests are people invited to a single app, and they do not count toward the workspace's people limit.

Is self-hosted Brod limited?

No. A self-hosted server has no plan limits on apps, people or storage. It is free under AGPL-3.0. You run the server and its backups.

Does Brod back up my apps' data?

On a self-hosted server, backups are the operator's job, and the production guide lists what to back up and how to restore. Rollback restores code versions, not data.
